Computer graphics is concerned with producing images and animations (or sequences of images) using a computer. This includes the hardware and software systems used to make these images. The task of producing photo-realistic images is an extremely complex one, but this is a field that is in great demand because of the nearly limitless variety of applications.

  • There are 2 types of computer graphics:Raster/Bitmap image uses a grid of individual pixels where each pixel can be a different color or shade. Bitmaps are composed of pixels.

  • Vector graphics use mathematical relationships between points and the paths connecting them to describe an image. Vector graphics are composed of paths.

  • There are 3 elements of computer graphics:Digital memory buffer

  • TV monitor

  • Display controller

Using these 3 elements, we are able to see the output on the screen in form of pixels (picture elements)

  • The main advantages of computer graphics are:The ability of computers to store complex drawings and display them whenever needed was one of the main attraction for using computers in the graphic mode.

  • The use of sound cards to make computers produce sound effect led to other uses of graphics.

  • The availability of easily interactive devices made it possible to build simulators.

  • The main uses of computer graphics are:Cartography

  • Visualization of measurement data (2D and 3D)

  • Visualization of computer simulations medical diagnostics

  • Drafting and computer design

  • Preparation of publications

  • Special effects in movies

  • Computer games

It is difficult to display an image of any size on the computer screen. This method is simplified by using Computer graphics. Graphics on the computer are produced by using various algorithms and techniques. This tutorial describes how a rich visual experience is provided to the user by explaining how all these processed by the computer.

Computer Graphics involves technology to access. The Process transforms and presents information in a visual form. The role of computer graphics insensible. In today life, computer graphics has now become a common element in user interfaces, T.V. commercial motion pictures.

In computer graphics, two or three-dimensional pictures can be created that are used for research. Many hardware devices algorithm has been developing for improving the speed of picture generation with the passes of time. It includes the creation storage of models and image of objects. These models for various fields like engineering, mathematical and so on.

Interactive computer graphics work using the concept of two-way communication between computer users. The computer will receive signals from the input device, and the picture is modified accordingly. Picture will be changed quickly when we apply command.

Good knowledge and understanding of the concepts of C programming language are necessary for learning the concepts of Computer graphics. Good understanding about basic mathematics allows us to better understand the concept of computer graphics.

This tutorial is helpful for the students who are interested in learning the use of graphics on the computer. The tutorial covers the basics of graphics and development of various visuals by the implementation of graphics in the computer.

A1: The process of creation of pictures with the help of a computer is known as Computer Graphics. The end product of the computer graphics is a picture. This could be a business graph, drawing, and engineering sheets. To create and manipulate pictures on a display device is the use of computers . It comprises of different software techniques to create, store, modify, represents pictures.

Vector graphics is a form of computer graphics in which visual images are created directly from geometric shapes defined on a Cartesian plane, such as points, lines, curves and polygons. The associated mechanisms may include vector display and printing hardware, vector data models and file formats, as well as the software based on these data models (especially graphic design software, computer-aided design, and geographic information systems). Vector graphics is an alternative to raster or bitmap graphics, with each having advantages and disadvantages in specific situations.[1]

Vector graphic displays were first used in 1958 by the US SAGE air defense system.[6] Vector graphics systems were retired from the U.S. en route air traffic control in 1999.[citation needed] Vector graphics were also used on the TX-2 at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory by computer graphics pioneer Ivan Sutherland to run his program Sketchpad in 1963.[7]

At present, downloadable PDFs of all volumes are at version 078. The downloadable PDF of the Intel 64 and IA-32 architectures optimization reference manual is at version 045. Additional related specifications, application notes, and white papers are also available for download.

OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a cross-platform, hardware-accelerated, language-independent, industrial standard API for producing 3D (including 2D) graphics. Modern computers have dedicated GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) with its own memory to speed up graphics rendering. OpenGL is the software interface to graphics hardware. In other words, OpenGL graphic rendering commands issued by your applications could be directed to the graphic hardware and accelerated.

Computer Graphics has grown over the years and plenty of software systems have been developed for generating computer graphics of various sorts. It includes systems for producing three-dimensional models, rendering software to draw images and associated user interface software and hardware.

2D Transformation in computer graphics is a process of modifying and re-positioning the existing graphics in 2 dimensions. Transformations help change the object's position, size, orientation, shape, etc.; there are three basic rigid transformations: reflections, rotations, and translations. 2D Transformations in computer graphics take place in a two-dimensional plane. There is a fourth common transformation called dilation.

Transformation means a change in the object's orientation, size, and shape. They position the object, change its shape, and even change how something is viewed. Transformation plays a major role in computer graphics, repositioning the graphics on the screen and changing their size or orientation. The basic geometrical 2D Transformation in Computer Graphics are:
