The publisher promises that Train Simulator 2012 will be the most advanced train simulator in the world, with stunning graphics and physics that are accompanied by 15 detailed locomotives from the age of steam to present day. The game includes eight different routes, which feature authentic signalling, stations and landscaping. The game also has a feature called the "RS Career System" that allows players to compete against other drivers around the world. Players can also create routes and collect downloadable locomotives, stock and routes. Built-in tutorials make it easy for newcomers to get in the cab and start playing right away. For players who are worried that they'll have to repurchase all of the content they assembled with the previous game, Railworks 2.0, the publisher promises, "Any DLC you have purchased from RailSimulator.com for RailWorks or RailWorks 2 will continue to work with Train Simulator 2012. Any DLC you purchase from us up to and after the launch of Train Simulator 2012 will also be compatible. We also plan to upgrade existing DLC over time to take full advantage of the new Train Simulator 2012 technology. This programme will commence shortly after the release of Train Simulator 2012, starting with the NEC. A full schedule of DLC upgrades will be announced in due course." Players won't even have to purchase a full game, either - Railworks states they'll be able to update their game to Train Simulator 2012.Related Games: RailWorks 3: Train Simulator 2012About Jonah A. Microsoft Train Simulator is intended to provide the same kind of engrossing and authentic experience for railroad aficionados that the successful line of Microsoft Flight Simulators has created for aviation enthusiasts. Gamers can choose to take the role of engineer on one of several finely detailed recreations of actual trains from the past and present. Speed steadily ahead, working to complete challenging scenario objectives or simply appreciating the sense of control over hundreds of tons of steel moving at speeds of 60 miles per hour. There's also the option to take the more casual role of a sightseeing passenger, enjoying the faithfully recreated scenery along one of six internationally famous routes like the modern U.S. Northeast Corridor, the busy urban Odakyu Electric Railway, or the intriguing Orient Express of the 1930s. In addition to the realistic scenery, the game also features authentic engine and railway sounds to provide a more complete sensory experience. The Microsoft Train Simulator is designed to present a relatively hard-core simulation of the true function, feel, and flavor of trains and railroads throughout history. Like the successful Microsoft Flight Simulator games, Microsoft Train Simulator was designed with an open-ended structure to allow enthusiasts and other game development companies to create new trains, landscapes, and scenarios that can be easily incorporated into the game.

Teacher education has been criticized for a number of gaps in learning. Darling-Hammond (1999) and Ramsey (2000) agree that classroom training experiences are inadequate for pre-service teachers as they usually focus on lesson planning more than student behavior and functioning. Groundwater-Smith, Deer, Sharp, and March (1996), Cambourne, Kiggins, and Ferry (2003) and colleagues have shown that the best way to train pre-service teachers is for them to have unlimited time in the classroom and to be involved in the complex decisions that teachers make every day. However, this is difficult to achieve due to budget and time constraints. Simulation training provides a natural solution to this issue (Wood, Turner, Civil, & Eli, 2016). Computer simulations can provide guided practice for a variety of situations that pre-service teachers would not frequently experience during their teacher education studies (Mason, 2011; Mason, Jeon, Blair, & Glomb, 2011). Training pre-service teachers in a classroom requires patience from the students as a less-than-competent teacher in training makes mistakes. Classroom simulations can help pre-service teachers develop the skills that it takes to properly run a classroom without the high-stakes risk of causing harm to actual students (Matsuda, 2005).
It is interesting that Dr Rogers mentions the 1989 Kegworth air crashas the subsiquent Air Accident Investigation Board enquiry revealed thatone of the reasons why the pilots shut down the wrong engine was becausethey were flying one of the new Boeing 737-400 which had several importantmodifications compared to the 737-300 which they were more familiar withand had not undergone conversion simulation training as there wasn't a 737-400 simulator in the UK at that time. (4)Perhaps if they had undergonesuch training then the outcome might have been different?
I would take issue with him about finance being the reason why pilotstrain on flight simulators as opposed to aircraft on the ground. How doesa parked plane recreate the sensation of a plane in flight? Totalimmersion simulation means that the simulation is so realistic that thesubject forgets that they are in a simulator and reacts as if they weredealing with a real situation inflight.
Many of us expected that the "Modernising" in MMC would reflectmodern methods of teaching in post-graduate training unfortunatley thiswas not the case!Only now are we seeing e-learning, simulation, NLP and other methods ofaccelerated learning being slowly introduced into the curriculum! Is it acceptable that Japanese children have access to a laparoscopicsurgical simulator in the Kidzania theme park in Tokyo (5) while surgicaltrainers and trainees have to make their own simulators (6-9)
